    Dear Brethren,

Stories, in general, are actually meant at broadening our images of ourselves as well as images of the world. We read a story & get to its gist to feel free from the pressures of reality and to get somehow pleased. That , of course, does help us get lifted out of ourselves, & when we return to our own time and place, we absolutely feel richer for the journey.

    ****

So, I've thought about something. Everyone of us tries to post a short story for discussion. The most important thing is that the story should treat something real, something we face & feel in our everyday existence. So, dear friends, set your imagination power free and overwhelm us with the sweetest, brightest & most telling of your words. Short stories you've read anywhere may be posted, too. Let us give our thoughts some food ...

    ****

    Story 1

An old Arab lived close to New York City for more than 40 years. One day, he decided that he would love to plant potatoes and herbs in his garden, but he knew he was alone and too old and weak.
His son was in college in Paris, so the old man sent him an e-mail explaining the problem:
"Beloved son, I am very sad, because I can't plant potatoes in my garden.
I am sure, if only you were here, that you would help me and dig up the garden for me. I love you, your father."
The following day, the old man received a response e-mail from his son:
"Beloved father, please don't touch the garden. That is where I have hidden 'the THING.' I love you, too, Ahmed."
At 4 pm. the FBI and the Rangers visited the house of the old man and took the whole garden apart,
searching every inch. But they couldn't find anything.
    Disappointed, they left the house.
The next day, the old man received another e-mail from his son:
"Beloved father, I hope the garden is dug up by now and you can plant your potatoes.
That is all I could do for you from here. Your loving son, Ahmed"

    Thanks very much indeed

very funny story :lol: thx a lot
it shows really the impression we got (arabien and muslims) in the united states, well this is not something surpring in our days, even if many say that this impression started after the 11th of september but i believe in that day was just proved because western government (to not say poeple) always have this bad idea about us...personnaly i dont care about that cause im so very proud of who i am

    I'll Participate with you guys

this is a short Story it deserves some interest

We are rearranging ourselves in bed when Chris asks, “What are those red marks?”

“These?” I ask, pulling back the flesh beneath my arm. “My baby's footprints. He sleeps between me and Johnny, horizontally. Sometimes they're there all day.”

Chris is cross, not because I've mentioned my husband but because I've mentioned my son. I still call him my baby even though he's almost 3.

It's Chris's reaction that makes me feel that our affair can never become serious; that I can never leave Johnny for him. Because he doesn't realise that it is not my husband he is competing against, it's my son. It's something I've noticed in a lot of people who don't have children: their incomprehension of the nature of this love.

I know he wouldn't understand if I explained that the first time my son held me in a loving way, it felt better than any time my husband ever held me; it felt, in fact, like the embrace of my first boyfriend. And I know he wouldn't understand that I enjoy evenings in with my son more than being with him or Johnny. That when I'm sitting there watching him eat food I've prepared and he's watching one of his favourite DVDs and he turns to me and says, “I love this,” I forget any worries that I'm turning him into a couch potato and just feel love, proper love, in a way that neither of my adult men can bring me.

Although this won't last, can't last, and he will learn not to like me and then to hate me and then to forget about me, it still means more than anything Chris can give, and for this reason I can only like him, and regret our time together, already, because we have no future.

well dear Fahmi, i agree that this story is short but also it's full of meenings. it's a true and honest expression of a mother's love to her kid. what i really liked is the way the mother was describing her love and how simple things like eating or watching DVD's can touch the heart of a mother to give it warm, noble feelings toward her child
