There are among those who believe in the popular saying as "Time is Gold." Time in Islam is more than Gold or any precious material thing in this world. Of all religions, only Islam guides mankind not only to the importance of time but also how to value it. Allah the Almighty and His Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), very clearly tell us the value of time, why we must not waste it and how we can make use of our time wisely to increase our Eeman (Faith) and thus attain success, especially eternal success in the life hereafter.

Ibn Abbas narrated that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said:

"There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) health and free time for doing good."

The following are some of the most important duties demanded of Muslims:

    1. Ensuring benefiting from time
    2. Utilizing leisure time
    3. Racing for good deeds
    4. Learning from the passage of time
    5. Seeking the superior times
    6. Planning and organizing time
    7. Fulfillment of time commitments
    8. Necessary awareness of time wasters

    Dear Forrest Gump,

Your words are quite as valuable & precious as time. But I really would like to discuss the topic with you. I see, as you see, that our religion preaches a good dealing with time & urges us to seize every minute for our welfare and benefit. Yes, that's absolutely true. But do you frankly think that we are abiding by & following these wise pieces of advice ? Are we really taking everyday & every hour & every minute & every second of our lives into deep account ? Are we conscious of the tremendous value of the notion of time ? Try to ponder over that & you'll reach some conclusions.

I would also like to say that the importance of time is stressed in different cultures other than that of Arabs and Moslems. A closer look at the proverbs bank in every civilization would prompt a smart observer to see their value for that particular people. Take any dictionary of proverbs of any culture & you'll be quite dazzled.

    ******

Here are some of the English proverbs

    * He that has most time has none to lose.

    * He that hath time hath life.

    * Take time when time cometh, for time will away.

    * Time fleeth away without delay.

    ******

Now have a look at the French culture & its view of time

    * Le temps est un grand maître, dit-on.
    Hector Berlioz

    ***

Le temps qui, sans repos, va d'un pas si léger,
Emporte avec lui toutes les belles choses :
C'est pour nous avertir de le bien ménager
Et faire des bouquets en la saison des roses

    Tristan L'Hermite

    Kindest Regards

From a personal point of view and I'm very sad to say this, I don't see any people in this world who are wasting their time on bootless and futile activities more than the Arabs and that's certainly one of the chief causes of the pitiful and deplorable situation we're in.

A few years ago, I've been in some parts in Europe and I've seen how much they consider "time as Gold"; It's something incomparable to time for the Arabs.

A glimpse on how people waste their time.

    yeah
well time in islam is so precious and so it is in so many other cultures and civilizations we were born in a specefic time and so we die we live for a predefined duration and we will be juged for what we did during this time we live 20 30 40 70 90 years while others cease living very early .....
in litterature also we have a big focusing on time time is considered for instance in shakespear's macbeth as god's order and by changing things and interfering in that order to satisfy the killing ambitions for instance it's as if we're challenging god's willings and plannings and so there will be repercussions and we will be punished on earth before and in the day of judgement..............
